How to tie a windsor knot

Accessories

The tie first appeared in ancient China and has grown in popularity ever since. And now, after many centuries since its inception, this accessory has become an indispensable element in the business style of any man. There are about a hundred different patterns by which you can tie it. For this reason, every man at least once faced the question of how to tie a tie — and, more often than not, Windsor is the answer to this difficult question.

What is Windsor

The Windsor tie knot, also called the double knot, is one of the classic ways to tie a tie. Such a knot can be recognized by its characteristic absolutely symmetrical triangle. It is incredibly elegant and at the same time simple in its execution.

However, this knot, despite all its advantages, is not for every day, since you can tie a Windsor tie only with a classic business suit. It will be an excellent complement to your look at any festive event.

The story of

Its name "Windsor" was given in honor of Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor. Remarkable is the fact that the Duke himself had nothing to do with the knot, he never in his life tied his tie in this way. Edward VIII distinguished himself only with an incredible sense of style, his impeccable appearance prompted noble people and fashionistas of that time to begin to imitate the Duke. It was one of these imitators who experimented with tie-tying methods and created the Windsor knot that has become a classic.

How to tie a windsor knot

Thin and long ties are best suited for Windsor, if you choose too wide a model, then the triangle, which should be voluminous, will become wrinkled and sloppy. If you take a tie that is too short, then its end will be higher than etiquette allows.

In addition to the classic one, there are two more ways to tie a tie with such a knot, Half Windsor and Double Windsor. It is best to start learning to tie "Windsor" with the classic method.

half-windsor

Half Windsor is not as formal as Windsor, but elegant. It can be combined with shirts of any cut and, like a classic knot, is only acceptable with a classic suit. The "half-windsor" scheme is basic, an indicator of the correctness of the knot is a characteristic dimple in the center of the tie.
