Tie clip: 9 mistakes

Accessories

The tie clip is a small functional detail that effectively complements the look. But if misused, it can ruin the whole experience. Here are 9 of the most common mistakes to avoid when using a tie clip.

Too high or too low

Some men set the tie clip too high or, conversely, too low. The rule is simple: this accessory should be located between the third and fourth shirt buttons.

Incorrect fastening

Many people know that the clip is designed to secure the tie to the shirt, but not everyone gets it right. The clip should not connect the front and back of the tie, but fasten them (both parts) to the edge of the shirt, namely, to the double layer of fabric, where the loops and buttons are located.

Wrong size

Another important rule that men often neglect. The clip should correspond to the width of the tie, namely, be from 1/2 to 3/4 of the width of the tie, and in no case be wider!

The clip is not worn with the vest

The tie clip is never worn with a vest, as the vest itself performs a similar function. The same goes for cardigans.

Right angle

The tie clip should always be perpendicular to the tie and never at an angle! If you use this accessory, make sure that it does not move during wear.

Choose a tie and shirt clip

Clamps are different: most often there are "slides" and "hooks" with or without teeth. For thin fabrics of shirts and ties, minimalistic "slides" are more suitable, and for thick fabrics - hooks, which will provide a more secure fit. When choosing this accessory, be sure to think about what you will wear it with. Pay attention to the match between the material of the tie and the design of the clip: sometimes decorative elements can leave puffs on the fabric.

Put on the clip correctly

When attaching the clip to the tie and shirt, loosen the fabric of the tie slightly. The clips are for securing, but they should not pull the tie down in any way - this is ugly!

Stylish solution

For the image to be harmonious, all its details must complement each other. So it is advisable to choose a clip with a tie together, focusing on a combination of shades and styles.

Combination with accessories

When choosing a tie clip, try to match it with other metal accessories such as cufflinks, watches, bracelets or rings. The only exception is the wedding ring: its shade may differ from all other jewelry. If you are wearing yellow metals, a gold tie clip is more suitable. Conversely, if you prefer white metals, opt for a silver tie clip.
