Clock with two independent measuring systems: one shows the current time, the other measures short periods of time. The counter registers seconds, minutes and hours and can be turned on or off at will. The central second hand of such a watch is usually used as the second hand of a stopwatch.
Split chronograph
A sophisticated chronograph with two seconds hands, one of which can be temporarily stopped to record an intermediate measurement result.
Chronometer
An extremely precise watch that has passed a series of accuracy tests and received the appropriate certificates. The most famous certificate is COSC.
Moon phase indicator
Dial with a graduation of 29 days and a rotating indicator depicting the moon. At each moment in time, the indicator shows the current phase of the moon.
Power reserve indicator
An indicator in the form of an additional sector on the dial, showing the degree of winding of the mainspring of a mechanical watch. It shows the time remaining before the clock stops, either in absolute units - hours and days, or in relative units - full, 1/2, empty.
Perpetual calendar
A complete calendar that takes into account the number of days in a month and the length of February in a leap year.
Big date
Complication in hours, consisting of two disks of tens and units. Allows for the placement of larger date digits on the dial.
Second time zone
Time indication in two or more time zones. A very handy feature for traveling people. The transition between the belts is carried out by turning the ring, pressing a button or rotating a special head.
Alarm clock
A signal module integrated into the mechanism, which emits an audible signal at a given time.
Retrograde pointers
Pointer, moving on the sectorial part of the dial, and jumping back abruptly. Retrograde can be indication of hours, minutes, seconds, calendar and power reserve.
Repeater
A complex mechanical watch with an additional mechanism designed to indicate the time using sounds of different tonality. Typically, such a watch, when you press a special button, strikes the hours, quarters of an hour and minutes. In Grand Sonnerie models, the hours and minutes are chimed automatically, although they can also indicate the time by pressing the button.
Jumping hour
The hour is indicated in the window (aperture). The hour changes abruptly when the minute hand crosses the zero mark.
The equation of time
One of the most complex astronomical functions implemented in a watch. The watch shows true solar time, which differs from the mean (mid-equatorial) solar time.
Jacquemar
Moving figures on the dial are usually activated when a repeater or alarm clock strikes. Various plots and decoration themes make this watch a true work of art.
Carousel
A simplified tourbillon system that rotates the movement or even the entire movement at a slower speed, typically 1 revolution per hour.
Tourbillon
A difficult-to-manufacture mechanism that compensates for the influence of Earth's gravity on the accuracy of the watch. It is an anchor mechanism, placed inside a mobile platform with a balance in the center, and makes a full revolution around its own axis in one minute. Invented in 1795 by Abraham Louis Breguet.
