1. "Cinema" - the world's first mechanical watch-cinema
This watch is a real time machine that will take its owner to the 19th century and will allow you to experience the same delight that people experienced for the first time when they encountered animated photographs 150 years ago. One has only to press a special button, and you will see the film from which the history of cinema began - the very running of a horse, which was shot in 1877 by the English photographer Edward Muybridge, who stood at the origins of animation.
Looking at "Cinema", you clearly feel the time when film and photography equipment were mechanical. Even the dial resembles the lens of an old camera. To create an animated image of a galloping horse, Konstantin Chaykin designed his own version of the zoopraxiscope (a device for projecting films), improving the design of Edward Muybridge.
Another advantage of «Cinema» watches is their functionality. A miniature rotating shutter (shutter) is located in a semicircular ledge in the lower part of the body. It closes the eyepiece at the moment of frame change so that the image is not blurred. The protrusions on the sides of the case made it possible to increase the diameter of the disk with miniature images of a galloping horse, which made the animation as impressive as possible.
2. 'Moonwalker» - the largest 3D moon phase indicator in the world
Have you ever tried to tell the time from the moon? And if this planet is on your hand? This watch was created by the Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaikin. He took the idea of the famous inventor Ivan Kulibin as a basis and brought it to perfection. This is how the largest and most realistic clock moon in the world appeared - Lunokhod.
Not only does this watch look like a fantastic artifact, but it is also made of exotic and rare stainless steel. For centuries, gunsmiths made the most durable blades from it, but watchmakers did not use this material in their work - they considered it incredibly hard and difficult to process.
Konstantin Chaikin proved that nothing is impossible. Just like flying into space used to be considered something out of the realm of fantasy until Russian cosmonauts made it a reality. By the way, the watchmaker presented the first model of Lunokhod in 2011, when the whole world celebrated the 50th anniversary of Gagarin's flight. To date, there are only 12 models of such watches.
3. 'Joker Selfie» - the world's first self-portrait watch
Another watch where Konstantin Chaikin used damask steel is the Joker Selfie. Even the buckle of the strap is made of it. "Selfie" because it is the world's first self-portrait watch. The master endowed the face-dial with his own features, and pushed him to this idea of the work of the artist Arkhip Kuindzhi.
The iris of the Joker's eye repeats the green-yellow color of the iris of its creator, a stylized watchmaker's magnifier with a real magnifying glass is located above the other eye. If you turn the watch so that the case is horizontal, the eye under the magnifying glass will close, and a unique indicator of the day of the week will open in a special window, each of which has its own emoji.
This watch has its own history. Konstantin Chaikin created them for the Only Watch 2019 charity auction. Its participants, the world's leading watch brands, create masterpieces of watchmaking art, and the money from sales goes to finance research on Duchenne myopathy and search for ways to treat this dangerous disease. Previously, experts estimated the "Joker" at 18-000 Swiss francs, and they managed to sell them for 24 francs.
4. 'Mars Conqueror Mark 3 Fighter» - the first ever Martian pilot's watch
Do you know what time it is on Mars right now? And the owners of the Mars Conqueror Mark 3 Fighter watch know. Imagine that humanity has already conquered Mars and began to inhabit the red planet. To make this watch, Konstantin Chaikin took nine years of research, invention and improvement, and another two years of work. It took more than 2,5 thousand parts to assemble the mechanism. They activate numerous indicators, which are located on four dials at once. It is based on the Orthodox Easter date indicator, in addition to it, there are 26 additional functions and devices of high complexity.
Some of them, by the way, are invisible until they start to act. For example, a unique smart power reserve indicator. The low winding indicator turns on during the last two days of the ten-day power reserve. Made in the form of a black-and-white disk rotating at a speed of about a revolution per second, it is installed in a window near the number "27" on the date dial. Another curious function is that when the remaining energy of the winding drum is enough for one day, the acoustic notification device is turned on - once every two minutes, single gong strikes sound.
Another detail will impress those who are far from watch subtleties and are invariably waiting for a miracle on New Year's Eve. Throughout the year, one of the Paschalia modules is inactive, and wakes up only 10 minutes before midnight on January 1st. Here begins a real fairy tale spectacle that lasts an hour: the Easter arrow leaves the date of Easter of the past year, goes far to the left and begins to slowly rise to the date of Easter of the new year.
