Review of Citizen Radio-Controlled AT8218 watches

Wrist Watch

Like other leading Japanese watch companies (and not only watch companies), Citizen is distinguished by the use of the most advanced high technologies. The Tokyo brand has impressive achievements such as the extremely successful Eco-Drive concept (solar powered quartz movement) and the equally successful Radio-Controlled system (radio time synchronization).

It is important to note that in Eco-Drive, the solar panel and the panel that recharges it are hidden from the user's eyes. And the very term "solar" is conditional: the clock is supplied with energy from almost any source of light: both natural and artificial. And Radio-Controlled means the absolute accuracy of the watch: they automatically correct their readings according to a signal from radio towers located in Europe, America, Asia. Thus, we have before us a clock:

  • completely autonomous;
  • reference accurate.

Citizen has always been among the pioneers in these and other innovative areas and remains so to this day. Among the novelties of the watch brand is the AT8218-81 model, which combines both of the above technologies, Eco-Drive and Radio-Controlled. In addition to precision and autonomy, the watch is characterized by rich functionality, exquisite design and impeccable construction. The case and integrated bracelet are made of durable and lightweight titanium, the case diameter is 44 mm, the thickness is 11 mm, the watch assembly weighs only 91 g, the water resistance is 100 m - you can swim with a mask and snorkel. The mechanism is protected from magnetic fields.

The AT8218-81 feature set contains everything you need and even, as they say, a little more. Chronograph with stopwatch discreteness of 1/20 sec., World time (on a spectacular 12-sided bezel designations of 26 cities of the world), date (in the aperture at "3 o'clock") and day of the week (hand, retrograde), perpetual calendar, 12 and 24-hour formats for displaying the current time, a battery indicator (in complete darkness, it is operational for six months). All this is provided by the proprietary Citizen caliber H800.

And all this is displayed on an elegant, well-thought-out dial with a vertical decor. In the AT8218-81E version the dial is black, in the AT8218-81L version it is blue. Sapphire crystal, protected crown, Eco-Drive engraving on the case back - these touches complete the look of the watch.
