Belgian Chocolate - Rodania R40008 Review

Wrist Watch

The Rodania star appeared on the hour horizon in 1930 thanks to the efforts of Fritz Baumgartner. In the mid-50s, another important milestone in the history of the company - the beginning of cooperation with automotive and motorcycle sports. In the early 2000s, the highest achievement in motorsport came when Rodania became the official timekeeper of the Dakar Rally.

But in those days, watchmakers from Switzerland, and later from Belgium, did not live as a single sport (it was there that one of the sales departments of Rodania appeared). The watch took part in several expeditions to distant Antarctica. During the quartz crisis, the company managed to resist. Today, Rodania is a watch manufacturer with the motto "Belgian Heart with Swiss Quality".

BODY: UNIVERSAL SIZE BELGIAN CHOCOLATE

The main difference between the R40008 model and its counterparts lies in the combination of black and white. In this particular case, it is a black insert of the central link of the bracelet and a bezel on the case of the same color against the background of other stainless steel parts. Although the color is rather not black, but dark brown, like Belgian chocolate. Not a bad idea to make the watch stand out from the rest. By the way, the first glance makes you think of the Rado D-Star, although, in fact, these watches have little in common.

At Rado, for example, ceramics are declared as the main material. Agree that this is a rather controversial material for the watch industry. But back to Rodania. 42 mm is a universal size for the case. On a large wrist it does not get lost, on an average it does not go beyond. At the same time, in this model, the case does not give away the pan syndrome, i.e. he is not tall. All this allows you to comfortably fit on your wrist and not go beyond the shirt cuff. Complementing the picture of impressions of the case bezel color "Belgian chocolate". Thanks to such a bezel, as mentioned above, the watch plays with unusual colors and stands out from the crowd.

BRACELET: GOOD FROM ALL SIDES

The bracelet is good. This is not an integrated version, but thanks to the central insert of the same color as the bezel, the bracelet forms a single, indivisible whole with the watch. I do not argue that someone will think differently after trying the belt. I think this will also be an interesting solution. The links of the bracelet rattle a little, but within the bounds of watch decency for the “swiss made” inscription. The manufacturer decided to prevent accidental unfastening of the bracelet with the help of a double protection system - a push-button latch and an additional lock. This is important, based on the declared water resistance of 10 ATM. Good water protection is confirmed and complemented by a threaded crown.

DIAL: SUNRAY IN FAVOR

The color of the dial, made according to the Sunray principle, changes depending on the light falling on it. And here, too, could not do without "Belgian chocolate". First, it's beautiful. And secondly, do not forget that Sunray is inherent in a large number of watch dials. The readability of the time indications is good, but in the dark, unfortunately, the glow is quickly lost. In fairness, I note that the clock was in daylight sunlight is not the longest time.

LUPA: IS THERE A NEED?

Magnifying glass, cyclops. These words are known to many watch lovers. The date is already visible, but to enhance the effect, it was decided to install a magnifying glass. Does it suit the clock? Everyone will answer this question for himself.

GEAR: NO WORSE THAN OTHERS

The transparent case back shows us the mechanism installed in the watch. Outwardly, it is similar to the well-known ETA 2824-2. But the inscription twenty six jewels indicates that this is a Sellita SW 200-1 caliber. In fact, this is a double movement of the ETA caliber, but the popularity of Sellita is high now. In addition, the brands that use it deserve respect. Among them are Oris, Montblanc, Baume & Mercier, Sinn.

WHO IS THIS WATCH FOR?

The most important question is hard to ignore. The answer will be short: this watch is for those who like the combination of black and white.
