Review of smart watches CASIO Edifice EQB: specifications, photos, videos, comparison

Wrist Watch

As you know, the brand Casio edifice positioned as a racing car: this is its aesthetics (for example, the design of the dial indicators resembles a car dashboard, in some versions the colors of racing teams are used, etc.), such are the functional features (stopwatches, timers, memory for a large number of laps, special features processing this information in a smartphone synchronized with the clock).

However, in the Casio Edifice EQB series, not so much "auto racing" is in the foreground (although, as we will see later, the Casio Edifice EQB is also certainly present) and "cleverness".

The Casio Edifice EQB watch was first presented in 2014 at the largest watch exhibition Baselworld and was then announced as the world's first analog watch with synchronization with a smartphone, time display in 300 cities and solar power. That Casio EQB watch (aka Casio EQB) was the Casio EQB 500.

In subsequent years, the Casio EQB watch has been constantly evolving, replenished with new versions, while maintaining the main common features. Namely: the Casio EQB watch is the aforementioned "cleverness" (synchronization with a smartphone, solar battery, world time with very rich customization options), the presence of a dial and digital indication, a spectacular design, a steel case with water resistance up to 100 meters.

And the Casio Edifice EQB watches of various specific lines and models have their own characteristics, which we will consider below.

Pioneer: Casio Edifice EQB-500

As noted above, the Casio Edifice 500 (more fully and more specifically - for example, the Casio Edifice EQB 500, or at least the Casio EQB 500) were presented at the Basel Forum in 2014 and became the first watch in the Casio Edifice EQB family.

So, the 500 series smartwatch. They are available on both a leather strap (Casio Edifice EQB 500L) and a steel bracelet (Casio Edifice EQB 500D), as well as an ionic-plated steel bracelet (Casio Edifice EQB 500RBK and Casio Edifice EQB 500RBB).

The last two versions are limited editions, created in collaboration with the Red Bull Racing car racing team. In all variants, the case diameter is 48,1 mm, the thickness is 14,1 mm. Limited edition glass sapphire, the regular models have mineral. So is the tachymeter scale on bezel: only the limited edition has it, regular models do without it. The bezel can be IP-coated or not.

By the way, the absence of a tachymetric scale does not in the least reduce the functionality of the regular versions, because on the dial, at the 5 o'clock position, there is a real speedometer that records the speed in the stopwatch mode.

By the way, this indicator is actually multifunctional - in other modes it has different roles. So, in calendar mode, the hand shows the day of the week. And there are also two dots, filled and hollow: this is a notification about the presence or absence of an unread message in a synchronized smartphone.

In general, the watch uses the proprietary technology Casio Multi-Mission Drive, according to which the hands are multifunctional.

Synchronized with a smartphone, the Casio Edifice 500D watch (again, more precisely, the Casio EQB 500D), as well as, of course, all other modifications of the 500s, automatically correct the current time, and also copy the world time settings. In addition, the kit has a memory for 100 laps.

Finally, Bluetooth sync allows you to do all of your watch settings using your phone. And mutually - the watch is equipped with the function of finding its "pair". By the way, setting and setting the clock can be performed on them. True, this is more difficult.

The list of other functions of this watch is also extensive. Chronograph (along the way, we note its stylish mushroom-shaped buttons), a stopwatch with an accuracy of 1 second, a second time zone, a calendar (date and day of the week), an alarm clock, a day / night indicator (P / A). The module is protected by an alpha-gel that dampens the effects of vibration loads. Arrows and marks are backlit with phosphor (Neobrite), no LED backlighting. But there is airplane mode ...

We reviewed the Casio Edifice EQB-500 watch in some detail. Talking about the following models, we will mainly pay attention to the differences from the previous ones.

Speed and intelligence: Casio Edifice EQB-501

Japanese wrist watch Casio Edifice EQB-501XBL-1A with chronograph

The Casio Edifice 501 watch appeared shortly after the "five hundredth". There are many versions, all in almost the same dimensions as the firstborn of the entire series (diameter 48,1 mm, thickness 14,2 mm), all with mineral glasses. There are no functional differences at all, only the operating procedure for a pair of watches / smartphones has been improved. If there is synchronization, a very, very much of what the watch captures is automatically displayed on the smartphone screen.

In particular, you can see notifications about the presence of this synchronization, about the time adjustment made, about the time zone change. It is easy to choose the city you are in - the watch will be reset to the appropriate zone.

As already mentioned, there are a lot of modifications of the "five hundred first". So, the Casio Edifice EQB-501D-1A model (steel bracelet, black dial) costs about 400 euros. The same is the price of two versions of Casio Edifice EQB-501XBL on a leather strap, with a black or blue dial, with a painted bezel, digitized with a tachymeter scale. These three are the most affordable of the EQB-501 line, and the most expensive is the Casio Edifice EQB-501TRC-1A, a limited edition dedicated to the Scuderia Toro Rosso team, which costs 500 euros.

The whole world on display: Casio Edifice EQB-600

Japanese wrist watch Casio Edifice EQB-600D-1A2

But this is a completely different story. The Casio Edifice EQB 600, which debuted at Baselworld in 2016 - just imagine! - there is no chronograph function, no stopwatch. There is no speedometer or tachymeter scale either. So, these Casio Edifice 600s cannot be called automobiles. And in appearance they seem simpler ... The impression is deceptive: this is a smart watch for travelers, which they are focused on.

The key element is a globe on the dial at the 3 o'clock position. However, in order. First, you need to download the CASIO WATCH + app to your smartphone. Ready? Now we hold down the button with the Bluetooth logo, it is opposite the 8 o'clock position. You will receive a message that the phone / watch pair “was legally married”. After that, a short press of the Bluetooth button will correct the exact time on the watch, and pressing it for one and a half seconds will activate the transition to the application with all its capabilities. This is where we come to the magic globe.

In the application on your smartphone, you select the city you are interested in - and the globe on the clock starts to turn until the time zone you have chosen is facing you, and the hand on it takes the correct position. In this case, another part of the globe will be illuminated, and another part will be darkened: where is the day, and where is the night. At the same time, the position of the hands on the sub-dial of the second time zone will be adjusted (position "7.30").

In general, a miracle. And you can live without a stopwatch, and without an alarm clock. Moreover, there is a smartphone (without it, the EQB-600, of course, will work, but their main charm will not be available).

Casio Edifice EQB-600 case diameter is 47,3 mm, thickness is 13,3 mm. The backlight is the same Nebrite. The versions on a steel bracelet (Casio Edifice 600D, or more precisely - Casio EQB 600D) cost 400 euros, on a leather strap (Casio EQB 600L) - 220 euros.

Smaller and more compact: Casio Edifice EQB-900

Japanese wrist watch Casio Edifice EQB-900D-1A with chronograph

The Casio Edifice EQB-900 watch (in common parlance - Casio Edifice 900) is versatile, suitable for both travelers and racing enthusiasts, while at the time of its introduction, it was the most compact of all EQBs. It is easy to find enthusiastic reviews from fans by an Internet request like "casio eqb reviews" ... The diameter of the case of this watch is 45,8 mm, the thickness is 12 mm. Glass is mineral. The bezel is marked with a tachymeter scale. In addition to the Neobrite phosphor on the hands and markers, there is also an electroluminescent illumination of the dial.

Here, full synchronization with a smartphone, with all its great capabilities, and convenience of settings, and a chronograph, and a countdown timer, and an alarm clock, and "day / night", and, of course, a calendar - still with a date window and arrow retrograde day of the week. In general, the indicators on the dial are built very rationally. At the 12 o'clock position there is a double indicator - the day of the week and, when switching with the upper left button, the clock operating mode (current time / chronograph / stopwatch / timer / alarm clock). At 6 o'clock there are the hands of the chronograph minutes accumulator, they are also the timer, they are also the alarm clock. Finally, at the 9 o'clock position - something like a symbol of the European currency.

This is also a dual indicator - the status of the Bluetooth connection and the battery charge. The central second hand switches to this indicator, at the appropriate command. For example, to check the battery charge, hold the upper left button for two seconds, then press the lower right button - the arrow will show if it's time to take the watch out into the sun ...

Casio EQB 900D models are steel case and bracelet without any coating. The Casio Edifice EQB-900D-1A, with a black dial, costs 320 euros. The Casio designation EQB 900DB indicates the IP-coated bezel. Accordingly, the Casio EQB Edifice 900DB watch is somewhat more expensive, the price of the Casio Edifice EQB-900DB-2A model, in blue tones, is 380 euros. And more expensive than others, as usual, a limited version dedicated to the Scuderia Toro Rosso team - 430 euros.

Premium class: Casio Edifice EQB-1000

Japanese wrist watch Casio Edifice EQB-1000XD-1AER with chronograph

The premiere of the Casio Edifice EQB 1000 watch took place with great success at the 2019 Basel exhibition. These are really premium products, as evidenced by at least a sapphire crystal on all Casio Edifice 1000 models (or, as we have already specified, Casio Edifice 1000). In addition to sapphire, it is necessary to pay attention to a radical reduction in the thickness of the case: the Casio Edifice 1000 watch fits in only 8,9 mm, which is immediately 26% less than that of the 900 series! And not at all due to the simplification of the functionality. So by what means? Firstly, it was possible to more densely place the elements on the printed circuit board of the module. And also, Bluetooth has become more compact (new generation), the designs of the crown and the second hand drive have been improved. The result is obvious.

Steel cases and bracelets EQB-1000 - with or without coating. The diameter of the case is good for almost any man's wrist (45,6 mm), the bracelet is comfortable, the clasp unfolds with one touch. The weight of the watch assembly is quite comfortable 130 g.

Among the numerous features of the Casio Edifice EQB 1000: a second time zone permanently present on the dial; control of the time of the last lap and its comparison with the previous one in the window at "6 o'clock" (do not forget about auto racing DNA); memory for 200 laps. And, of course, the whole "gentleman's" set: world time, automatic calendar, chronograph, stopwatch (with an accuracy of 0,001 sec.), Timer, alarm clock, phone search, Neobrite backlight, LED luminescence. In general, the Casio EQB 1000 (or, if you prefer, the Casio EQB 1000) is a complete set of elite functionality in its category.

Japanese wrist watch Casio Edifice EQB-1000XDC-1AER with chronograph

It is impossible to ignore the attractive appearance of the Casio Edifice 1000 watch. For example, Casio EQB 1000D 1A has charming light greenish accents on the black dial. And the price for Casio EQB 1000D 1AER (the letters ER mean a batch of the same watch prepared for Europe) is very pleasant - 310 euros. However, there is no tachymeter scale on the bezel here. The Casio Edifice EQB-1000XD-1AER version has it, this time with no less cute lilac accents on the black dial. And for the same price. The EQB-1000XDС-1AER, with blue accents on the black dial, with a tachymeter and with a full black coating of the case and bracelet, will be more expensive - 400 euros.

About fakes

In conclusion, a few words on the topic "Casio Edifice 1000 how to distinguish a fake." Well, or any other Edifice and Casio in general.

First of all: buy watches from authorized dealers, and only from them! Remember: your watch must always be accompanied by an official Casio warranty card! The store guarantee alone is not enough!

Second: check the endings of the articles! ER, VEF, VUEF - they are good, avoid others, they are from all sorts of different markets and how they got to us for sale is a dark matter.

Third: take a close look at the packaging, outside and inside. On the branded box there is always a sticker with the name of an official Casio dealer, on a fake there is no such sticker. And the box itself should be as flat as the watch itself, and the pad inside - too.

Fourth: a tag is attached to the new watch. The manufacturer indicates the serial number of the watch on it, and the seller of the fake - anything.

Fifth, it is good to compare the appearance of the proposed copy with a photograph previously downloaded from an official source. You need to compare carefully! You can say meticulous!

Sixth: it would be nice to check the operation of at least some of the sensors on the spot. And it happens that they do not work at all - they are just drawn ...

And the last thing: do not chase cheapness! The price of genuine watches cannot be lower than that of official dealers! Under no circumstances! And is it worth saving, because even premium Casio watches, such as, for example, these luxurious Edifice EQB-1000, are, by and large, not so expensive.
