Review of new items: Casio G-SHOCK GA-2100

Wrist Watch

First, a little history. In 1983, the very first G-SHOCK was released - the DW-5000 model, a practically unkillable wristwatch with an electronic (quartz) movement (module), in a plastic case, in shape - almost square, but with beveled corners, so that in the end - octagonal. The display was purely digital. In 1989, the G-SHOCK AW-500 model appeared, with a mixed (analog-digital) display, in a round case. The G-SHOCK GA-2100, which today is at the forefront for all connoisseurs of the outstanding Japanese brand, goes back to these two epoch-making models.

Now specifically about the G-SHOCK GA-2100, the first version of which - black - was released in 2019. Others followed, but they are all united by common characteristics.

Body shape and construction

The GA-2100 case, or rather its bezel, is a regular octagon. By the way, in this sense one can speak of a happy find of Japanese designers, or one can recall Europeans ... Specifically, the genius Gerald Gentu, who, among other things, created this very shape of the case for the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch. The Octagon has become iconic, its details in numerous models of numerous watch brands may differ: for example, the Royal Oak has branded screws at the tops of eight corners, while others do not; the edges can be completely straight, or they can be slightly rounded; etc. But these are nothing more than details. Be that as it may, the octagonal shape fits perfectly to the male image of G-SHOCK.

Compared to the origins, the body design itself has changed - significantly improved -. The GA-2100 uses the Carbon Core Guard concept, i.e. The outer shell of the case made of the usual reinforced polyurethane contains an inner one made of carbon fiber, in other words, carbon fiber, which directly protects the delicate electronic module. Carbon is the strongest here, besides it is very light: the advantages are obvious.

Design

Like the AW-500, the GA-2100 is equipped with an analog-digital display, and it is worth noting the retrograde hand indicator of the day of the week - it looks very stylish. But the main thing, perhaps, is still in the case: thanks to the technologies used (in particular, the mentioned Carbon Core Guard), it was possible to make the case not only moderate in diameter (45,4 mm), but also quite thin - only 11,8 mm ... And the weight of the watch assembly is incredibly small - 51 grams, the weight is almost not felt on the hand. At the same time, the watch does not allow to forget about its presence on the wrist, which is actually important and useful, especially when the bracelet is so convenient.

Another iconic design feature of the GA-2100 is the monochrome body. As already mentioned, the first version was black, now there are several more. Among the latest additions to the collection are beige and white versions, respectively GA-2100-5AER and GA-2100-7AER. The bracelets are made to match the cases, all together makes a joyful impression, even the white one has a festive one, and the seriousness of the G-SHOCK as an instrument is preserved in the dials of the “official” gray color, with double illumination (electroluminescent and non-edged), three hands (hour, minute and day weeks) and inversion digital indication.

Functions

The GA-2100's feature set is quite extensive, although by today's standards it can be called basic for the G-SHOCK. Well, the base is solid: split chronograph with stopwatch accurate to 1/100 sec., Countdown timer, world time, 5 alarms, automatic calendar, accurate to 2100. The battery is rated for 3 years of use.
