At the largest international jewelry and watch exhibition Baselworld in 2019, the Casio G-SHOCK GA-2000 line was presented, marking the beginning of a new carbon era of G-SHOCK, which continues to this day. The Carbon Core Guard concept, according to which there is another carbon shell inside the polymer case, which additionally protects the electronic module, has triumphed! More than two years have passed since then, and the Japanese watch giant and its brand continue to develop this family. The next replenishment is the G-SHOCK GA-2200 series.
Looking at the GA-2200 it is impossible - if you follow the news from G-SHOCK - not to draw a parallel with the GA-900 line: the case configuration is very close: complex, with several "cutouts" and with rather large screws. Of course, there are differences, but the associations are undeniable - this style can be called industrial. However, the presence of a Carbon Core Guard (the 900 does not have it) is fundamentally important; so it is reasonable to declare the GA-2200 the successor of the 900s only in terms of design, but in terms of design and technology, this is a development of the 2000s.
With the latter, there is one more undoubted similarity, namely the presence of not only carbon, but also fiberglass: with its use, a two-layer back cover is made (outer layer is steel). Compared to the 900s, the GA-2200 buttons are recessed into the case, and there are 6 screws instead of 4.
As for the dial: it is a digital arrow with two central hands and a fancy-shaped multifunctional window stretching from "3" to "6 o'clock". The dial backlight is double, LED and non-edged, and the indication in the window is of the inversion type (light numbers on a dark background). Another window, at the 9 o'clock position, is round, reminiscent of a car brake disc. Perhaps this is a tribute not only to the urban industrial style, but also to the sporty one.
And now - an important point, also about styles. In the G-SHOCK GA-2200 line, there are initially four versions, and of them only black - GA-2200BB-1AER - has a purely industrial character (with the addition of a sporty one). In the GA-2200M-1AER version, there are notes that we would call festive - these are blue elements on the dial and bezel. Model GA-2200-2AER - here the joyful blue color (or, depending on the angle, aqua color) already dominates. And finally, GA-2200M-4AER is bright orange, an absolute holiday.
The watch is rather massive (case diameter 47,1 mm, thickness 12,8 mm), but lightweight (57 g). Mineral glass, 200-meter water resistance and, of course, classic "indestructibility" are in place. A polymer strap in the color of the case, with a classic buckle, for maximum comfort.
The functionality is limited to the basic set, which, however, as always, is extensive. Split chronograph (and with it a stopwatch accurate to 1/100 sec.), Countdown timer, 5 alarms, world time (31 time zones, 48 cities), automatic calendar (date, day of the week, month), 12 and 24-hour display formats of the current time, transition / non-transition to summer / winter time, turning on / off the sound, the Hand Shift option - moving the arrows to a position in which they do not interfere with the viewing of digital data.
