Business Wear Watch Review Continental 20506-GD312130

Wrist Watch

One way or another, we are all convinced that Swiss watches are the epitome of quality, reliability, precision and prestige. This is not surprising, because the most expensive watches in the world are produced in this amazing country. At the same time, in Switzerland there are quite a few manufacturers who create high-quality products at a reasonable price. One such manufacturer is Continental.

The story begins in 1924, when the founder of Agon Watch Co, Robert Triebold, registered the Continental brand. In less than 100 years, the company has earned the popularity and respect of consumers, which is confirmed by the presence of a two-year company warranty and the fact that Continental watches can be purchased in more than 20 countries around the world.

Packaging and delivery

The Swiss wrist watch Continental 20506-GD312130 is supplied in a white cardboard box with the Continental logo and the proud inscription Swiss made since 1924.

Inside the box is another box with a hinged lid. It has the Continental logo on it and, unfortunately, there is no more information here. Universality is felt, i.e. these boxes are used to pack most of the manufacturer's models.

It looks like the outer surface of the box is made of eco-leather. The interior is lined with a suede-like material. Inside, on the top cover, the Continental logo and the inscription Swiss made since 1924 also flaunt.

In a separate compartment, on a special pad, there is a watch to which a tag is attached. It is from it that we understand which particular model is in front of us.

Design, appearance and features of the watch mechanism

The watch case, like the bracelet, is made of steel with a partial PVD coating. Not everyone knows what it is. Many people think that this is ordinary gilding, but this is not so. PVD coating is a protective layer of titanium nitride that is applied in a vacuum and a very thin layer of gold is added on top of it. The use of this technological process makes it possible to obtain ultrafine deposition without any impurities. In general, everything is in order with the protective coating in Continental 20506-GD312130.

Wristwatches have a classic, strict look and moderately thin case. Almost the entire upper space is covered by a dial covered with a protective sapphire crystal, under which we see golden hands. This model has hour, minute and second hands. The hour markers and aperture bezel are also gold-plated.

The dial is gray, and if the hour markers are located on a flat, matte surface, then the aperture is in the area where the corrugated rays diverge from the center to the edges. It looks very elegant and stylish. Just below the 12 o'clock position, the Continental logo is located on the grooved surface of the dial. Just above the 6 o'clock mark, the inscription Sapphire flaunts, and near the six o'clock mark we see the proud Swiss made inscription.

The crown is gilded and has rather large grooves, thanks to which it is comfortable to hold, even taking into account the small overall dimensions. When viewed from the side of the crown, we can easily see the small Continental logo printed on its surface.

The crown has a triple course. The first - fixing, the second - allows you to change the date, the third - allows you to change the hour and minute hands.

The back of the case is covered by a shiny stainless steel case back, on which you can find information about the model number and water resistance 50WR. Many users mistakenly believe that with this watch you can dive to a depth of 50 meters. This is not true. With this watch, you can take a shower or slowly swim in the pool, but nothing more.

The strap, which is also made of stainless steel and has a protective PVD coating, has special overlays. They hide the bar and the place of its fastening on the ears. A cursory glance gives the impression that the bracelet is a continuation of the case.

The bracelet itself is moderately flexible, it can be adjusted in length (for this purpose, we have the opportunity to remove five links on each side). The links are located on both sides of the lock mechanism. This model uses a butterfly mechanism.

Watching the movement of the second hand, you involuntarily pay attention to the fact that it does not always fall strictly in the middle of the hour markers. Moreover, in some places it almost goes beyond their borders. However, in fairness, I want to note that this is a typical situation for most models.

Inside the case is a Swiss quartz movement caliber ETA F06.115. Referring to the specification of this movement, we find out that 3 jewels are used inside, and the battery life, depending on the battery, can reach 68 months when using a 40.0 mAh battery, and 94 months when using a 55.0 mAh battery. The movement measures 11½'' and features HeavyDrive technology.

There is no information on the store's website about this very important function, the essence of which is to counteract blows. No, of course, the watch does not help users protect themselves from bumps and falls - the principle of operation is somewhat different. In the event of an instantaneous excess of the permissible value of the force applied to the watch, the intelligent system reacts to this by generating an impulse of the necessary force to neutralize the consequences of the impact. Moreover, in order to avoid failure of the mechanism, the hands stop in a fraction of a second, and after the HeavyDrive technology has worked, the watch will continue to run as if nothing had happened.

Another important feature of the model is the presence of the End of Life (EOL) charge indication function, the essence of which is as follows: when the charge level of the battery cell comes to an end, the watch switches to energy saving mode. The user is informed about this by the second hand, which begins to move in leaps, overcoming not one, but two divisions at a time. Of course, until the battery is completely discharged, the clock continues to display the exact time.

Ease of use

Before using the watch, I had to remove a couple of links on the bracelet. This is done without much difficulty, with a special device.

In my opinion, the Continental 20506-GD312130 watch is aimed at business attire. They are best worn with formal suits or trousers with arrows and a shirt.

The thickness of the case is slightly less than 10 mm, due to which the watch does not stick out and allows the long sleeve of the shirt to cover it without much difficulty, without puffing up at the same time. In fact, it is very convenient when there is no need to constantly adjust the sleeve and watch so that the hand is comfortable when worn.

I didn’t have any particular complaints about the quality of the watch, everything was done soundly. The stylish silver case, gold bezel of the dial and similar inserts in the links of the bracelet look elegant, there is no feeling of shiny cheapness. There are no traces of dust under the glass. In general, in my opinion, Continental 20506-GD312130 is a good representative of the line of budget Swiss watches.
