Diesel watch with "petrol" glasses

Wrist Watch

Diesel actually started (in 1978, in the town of Molvena near Venice) as a denim fashion brand. Today it is a very large company with dozens of branches in Europe, Asia, America, which just does not produce - clothes of all kinds of styles and trends, shoes, interior items, various accessories; there are even special editions such as the Fiat 500 by Diesel, the Ducati motorcycle by Diesel, the Diesel Farm wine. There are also wristwatches, they are still invented in Italy, but made in the USA, this is done by Fossil according to Diesel projects.

Diesel watches can be called the apotheosis of masculinity. Their characteristic features are massiveness (Diesel Grand Daddy has a diameter of 66 mm - measure the width of your wrist for interest!), Richness of functions (the same Grand Daddy are equipped with four quartz movements at once!), Bold, sometimes shocking, color schemes. Here is one of such bold decisions and we will tell you. We are talking about glasses, which are sometimes called gasoline: the play of color on them resembles the streaks of a film of gasoline spilled into water.

They are also called rainbow colors (there really are all the colors of the rainbow, but in fact there are many other tones). And this is closer to the scientific term: iridescent or iridescent glass, which goes back to the Latin word iris - iridescent. Yes, the iris of the eyes, this is what the glasses of interest to us are also associated with!

The irisation of glass (for decorative purposes) has been known for a very long time. Its essence consists in the deposition of a very thin film on the glass as a result of the deposition of vapors of any oxide of any metal. Actually, iridescent surfaces were "invented" by nature itself, many minerals, butterfly wings, shells of mollusks cast like a rainbow ... But man went the other way - he began to heat metals until they evaporate and direct vapors to glass. It turns out beautifully, you won’t say anything! Nowadays, titanium chloride is used for iridescence, it is harmless and environmentally friendly. The most modern technology provides for laser heating of the reagent and vapor supply to the glass using an air duct.

This is how they create rainbow glasses for, among other things, Diesel watches. The effect is quite impressive: for example, a black dial may appear, depending on the lighting and angle, either as a gradient orange, or as a multicolored iridescent, or similar to the northern lights ... Undoubtedly, this is a brilliant (literally and figuratively) solution for such an extravagant watch like Diesel!

Let's take a look at some Diesel models with petrol - sorry, rainbow - sorry, iridescent glass.

Griffed

Quite an exotic model, the uniqueness of which lies not only in the iridescent play of glass, but also in many features of the layout. The crown and buttons of the chronograph are located on the left, the date window is also on the left, the small seconds hand is at 12 o'clock, and the same glass is, as it were, pressed against the bezel with special brackets. It looks like something military, although in reality the nature of these bumpers is purely decorative.

Naturally, everything is black - both the PVD coating of the steel case, and the leather strap, and the dial. Although the color of the latter is not visible, because, we remind you, the glass is iridescent. In general, despite the moderate dimensions for the brand (“only” 48 mm), the model is one of the coolest ones!

MS9 Chrono

Very similar to the previous sample, only the diameter is a millimeter smaller (47 mm is still solid). A couple of other differences - not a strap, but a steel (also with black PVD-coated) bracelet, of the notorious "spetsnaz" brackets there is only one left (at "9 o'clock"), and it is wound under the glass. The trapezoidal shape of the counters at 12 and 6 o'clock is unusual; this is a clear design delight.

timeframe

Another 48mm steel black chronograph, this time with the traditional crown and pushers on the right. It is worth paying attention to the curious markings of the hour-minute scale: the numbers mark the midpoints of the hour (1.5, 2.5, etc.), and the positions "6" and "9" are explained by the corresponding English words six and nine. Black leather strap, case water resistance 100m.

Finally, our selection includes a model with typical "diesel" dimensions - 51 mm. It is still all black, including the dial, although behind the gasoline glass it does not seem to be black at all, but whatever. Water resistance, as in the previous case, 100-meter, this time the strap is fabric-silicone. But the main thing, of course, is different: in the rich analog-digital display, which includes not only a chronograph with a stopwatch, but also a calendar (date, day of the week, month), and a 12/24 hour time indication (day / night »), And an alarm clock.

The stylish bumper protects the crown at the same time. We also note the ONLY THE BRAVE inscription at the top of the dial. Unsurprisingly, the price is higher than the previously reviewed models.

D-48

The simplest configuration of all we have chosen for this review is a three switchman, even without a date. And a modest (we repeat, only by Diesel standards) size - 48 mm. But the model, for all her masculinity, is very, very pretty, even touching in some way. This impression is created by the words in the positions "5", "6" and "7 o'clock" - five, six and seven (otherwise it would not be confused!), And, most importantly, the glass is no longer "gasoline", but blue on top and yellow from below.
