Hermes watches: how the collar turned into a Medor watch

Hermes has always strived to delight and surprise. And, perhaps, no one else could create such an elegant and stylish accessory using a dog collar as a basis.

In 1837, the founder of the company Thierry Hermes, noticing the high demand for horse harnesses and bridles, launched his own production of these and other accessories for riders. Leather products from Hermes were of the highest quality and soon various luxury items appeared in the company's assortment.

The sixth generation of the Hermes family and Vice President of Hermes Guillaume de Seynes recalls how the company, known for leather goods, began creating wristwatches. The first "unofficial" model appeared in 1912.

My great-grandmother, Jacqueline Hermes, was a very energetic little girl, so her father decided to attach a pigskin strap to a pocket watch and put it on her wrist.

For the Hermès Médor women's model, as well as many other products, Hermes craftsmen drew inspiration from the design of one of the company's first products - a dog collar. If the horses got great harnesses, why shouldn't man's best friend wear a fine leather collar? The design was so successful that it was soon transformed into women's belts for women of the 1930s, emphasizing the elegance of the silhouette and eye-catching.

In 1993, the Clous de Paris belts with pyramidal studs caught the eye of the Hermes designer, and the secret watch was born. The item was made of rose gold and stainless steel and was available in two sizes - Mini and PM.

The bracelet-like strap has three pyramids, the largest of which opens to reveal a milky silver dial. The hands are driven by the most precise Swiss quartz movement.

However, the most difficult, oddly enough, can be the choice of a watch strap: Hermès offer an incredible selection of diamond finishes and a range of colors from crimson and red Agatha sometimes charcoal, tobacco and ivory.
