More or less: how many hours should be

Wrist Watch

In every hobby that can lead to active and even obsessive gathering, at some point you should stop, sit down and evaluate the scale. The watch world is diverse, bright and attractive, interesting brands release new collections quite regularly and constantly encourage you to buy something fresh - especially since watches do not become outdated if we are not talking about “smart” models. But how many watches in a collection are necessary and sufficient?

The answer to this question should be sought in the way of life and one's own sense of beauty. Someone can get by with one costume watch for life, someone collects limited-edition Casio G-Shock, picking them up for sneakers, someone keeps at hand several completely different models for a variety of life situations. Everything is individual, so we can say that the minimum hour is one model. And it can be anything: suit, sporty, bright, ultra functional, or, conversely, as minimalistic as possible.

If you do not lead an active lifestyle, but want to buy a diving watch because you like aesthetics - go ahead, no one will forbid you! No one will frown at the combination of a solid chronograph and a T-shirt. Nobody cares that the Swiss caliber on your wrist has an overly painted case.

In this case, again, there are never too many hours. Some models are better suited to this or that event simply ideologically. Going on a hike, sparkling with a complex tourbillon, is not the most logical idea - in such a situation it is better to consider something in a strong shockproof case, and leave the tourbillon for your usual pastime in the city or even for some special events. The division of watches into types is almost always conditional, since manufacturers produce many related and universal options. But we still identified a couple of main categories of watches and situations for which they are suitable - of course, with examples.

Suit or classic watches

If your wardrobe is dominated by jackets and shirts, then the classic in its various variations is your choice. Calibers from standard to the most complex are primarily distinguished by their rather discreet, neat design. It is based on subtle fonts or neat indexes on the dials, proven color combinations that some brands bring to life with unusual textures - the same Seiko in the Presage line regularly experiment with dial textures, offering either enamel, paper, or other coatings that add familiar shades special depth and flavor.

Various complications help to diversify costume models - calendars, moon phases, power reserve indicators, tourbillons already mentioned above and others. Suit watches do not have to seem boring - and the manufacturers are well aware of this, balancing between life style minimalism and pretentiousness. Sometimes a delicate guilloche on the dial, like the Oris Artelier Date, is all that is needed to put together an image.

Sport watches

Sports models are primarily distinguished by their increased wear resistance: the calibers withstand immersion to depth, are not afraid of impacts and accurately measure the time. Some of the models - the same Tag Heuer Aquaracer Caliber 5 - look quite decent in combination with a suit, although they have the classic attributes of a diver's watch: bezel, screw-down head and serious water resistance.

However, even the most austere-looking sports models usually have some bright design elements - yellow or juicy red lettering, an unusual-shaped arrow, a sub-dial highlighted with thematic engraving. The appearance of such a watch is both more relaxed and more functional. It should be noted that it is in sports models that you can most often find the widest selection of different straps - from silicone and textile to massive metal bracelets.

Casual watch

The watch combines the functions of a fashion accessory and a useful complex mechanical device, so the choice of an everyday model depends on lifestyle and aesthetic preferences more than ever. Most often, such watches put functionality at the forefront - but they regularly supplement it with brighter designs. Eye-catching color combinations, inlays and engravings, new textures - or, conversely, timeless black and steel classics: the choice is yours.

Any, perhaps, the most eye-catching jewelry models can become everyday watches. The Beatles' Raymond Weil collection, the massive Invicta Reserve Akula with a hypnotic layered dial, and the skeletonized Skagen Holst will brighten up your daily routine. The choice is too wide. And the only problem is that it is very difficult to dwell on one universal model that will ideally fit all situations and all images.

On the other hand, maybe you shouldn't stop?
