How to set the clock correctly

Wrist Watch

"Works like a clock!" - we say, wanting to emphasize the high accuracy of something. However, it is not only the accuracy of the watch itself that is important, but also the starting point! Imagine: the minute hand completes a full circle around the dial in exactly one hour, i.e. 3600,0000 ... seconds - well, that's great, but only initially this hand was displaced from the correct position, for example, by 15 minutes. The Kremlin chimes strike noon, and the hands of these super-precise watches of yours (or the numbers in the windows) show 12:15 ... It becomes necessary to put the hands in the correct position, or to bring the numbers to this position; in a word - you need to adjust the clock!

By the way, all this concerns not only your personal watches that you wear on your wrist, not only family or corporate watches that hang on your wall - this also applies to public clocks, right up to the Kremlin chimes. However, we will not talk here about how to set the hands of the Chimes or, for example, London's Big Ben - specially trained people are engaged in these settings. But let's talk about how to set up a wrist or interior (wall, table, etc.) clock.

Correct mechanical watch setting

Perhaps, the question of how to set up a mechanical wristwatch is the easiest one in our topic. Even a child of primary school age can customize a mechanical wristwatch - if, of course, he is not quite the ultimate child of the era of digitalization, who perceives only numbers on a smartphone screen. But even such a person is not difficult to train! Take pure classics for example; A mechanical Seiko watch from the CS Dress collection works well. They have three hands - hour, minute and second, as well as a date window. So, we set up the exact time!

  1. We go to the site with the display of the exact time.
  2. We catch the moment when the second hand on the watch comes to the “12” position (ie it will be directed vertically upwards), and at this moment we pull out the crown as far as it will go. Here it will be - in two clicks. The “stop-second” function, usual for modern mechanical watches, will work, the watch will stop.
  3. Turning the crown, set the hour and minute hands so that they show exactly the right time.
  4. The site displays an image of a clock with an arrow jumping once a second. At the right moment - when the hand of the watch jumps to “12” - we press the crown of our wrist watch, pushing it into its original position. The clock has started, the exact time has been set!

In the model we have taken as an example (and in the overwhelming majority of any other mechanical watch), it is easy to set the correct date as well. To do this, pull out the crown not completely, but only by one click, and then rotate it "towards yourself" - the numbers in the window will change sequentially.

You just need to remember that this setting should not be done in the time interval from 21:00 to 01:00, because you can knock down the automatic date translation.

In general, the answer to the question "how to adjust a wristwatch" or, what is the same, "to set the time" - this answer is absolutely clear when it comes to mechanics. Electronics can be a little tricky.

Setting up your Casio watch

The wrist watches of the Japanese company Casio are extremely popular all over the world. All of them are electronic, operate on quartz movements of the highest precision, are extremely reliable, inexpensive, and have a large number of functions. It is precisely because of the most useful multifunctionality that the setting of an electronic clock is, as a rule, more complicated.

True, not always: there is, for example, the Japanese brand Q&Q, which produces electronic (quartz) watches for children, purely analogue watches, showing nothing but the current time and (in some models) the date. Well, with them everything is as simple as with the above mechanics.
But let's take a closer look at some quite "adult" Casio.

How to set up Casio G-Shock

The G-Shock is perhaps the most celebrated family of Casio wristwatches. First appeared in 1983, "jishoks" are distinguished by a record unpretentiousness to harsh conditions - shock, vibrations, magnetic fields, high pressures, temperature extremes. At the same time, modern G-Shocks are very high-tech and multifunctional, they are used for everyday use, and for all kinds of extreme sports, including sports.

There are many different series within the family, simpler and more "advanced", so setting up a digital clock with 1 button is one procedure, setting up a clock with 3 buttons is a little different, and setting up a digital clock with 4 buttons is a third. And there are G-Shock models even with 5 buttons, and some also have arrows ...

Nevertheless, nothing outrageous, no special training is required: setting the time on the watch is not too difficult. Setting up G-Shock watches of all kinds, without exception, is described in detail and clearly in the proprietary instructions, perfectly translated into many languages.

For example, consider the G-Shock Protection series, model GST-B200. This is a state-of-the-art solar-powered analog-digital watch with Bluetooth technology to sync with a smartphone running the G-Shock Connected app. There are many functions, everything, as we have already said, is clearly described in the instructions, but here we will tell you how to set the time on this clock.

Yes, automatic time setting is certainly provided; to activate it, you just need to pair the watch and smartphone (according to the actions that the G-Shock Connected app will indicate on the screen of the latter). During pairing, the second hand will point to the R symbol (approximately at the "2.30" position), and upon completion - to the indicator located just below. And that's it: four times a day, the clock will contact the smartphone and make adjustments - at 00:30, 06:30, 12:30 and 18:30! The only thing is that the clock must be in the current time mode (not a stopwatch or a countdown timer). To select a mode, use the lower left button ...

If you want to adjust the current time at a different moment, outside of the automatic schedule, it is also not a problem: place your smartphone near the clock (no more than a meter) and press the button in the “3” position. On the screen of the clock, the inscription SET will pulsate, and at the end of the adjustment, you will be informed there: OK.

And finally, there are situations in which synchronization of the watch with a smartphone is impossible. The smartphone is far away, or there is strong radio interference, or you are on an airplane, or the smartphone is updating its operating system ... It's not scary either, since you can set the time completely manually. To do this, set the current time mode (recall - with the lower left button), then press the upper left button and hold it until the city name appears on the screen, and then return to the lower left and successively press to set the seconds, then minutes and finally hours. You need to set the required values by pressing the right buttons - upper and lower. Moreover, at the stage of setting the seconds, only the lower one is triggered, it resets the seconds to zero.

Incidentally, calendar pointers (date, day of the week, month and year) are set in exactly the same way.

After completing manual tuning, simply press the upper left button. And get back to your normal life - now everything is correct on your Casio G-Shock Protection GST-B200!

Another variation from that G-Shock Protection collection is the GA-100 series, a distinctive sports watch. They do not have synchronization with a smartphone (as well as a solar battery), but they have such specific capabilities as setting the required distance, measuring the speed of movement (up to 1998 km / h), the time it takes to complete individual stages and the entire race as a whole. Well, and the current time is counted with the same reference accuracy (± 20 sec. Per month), you just need to set it correctly. G-Shock Protection is an electronic watch with 4 buttons, of which the lower left button is used to select a mode (current time, stopwatch, timer, world time, sound signal). Timekeeping mode setting is the same as described above for the GST-B200.

The G-Shock GA-100 is also an analog-digital watch. The position of the hour and minute hands is automatically synchronized with the digital readings. But occasionally discrepancies can occur, and then the synchronization can be restored manually. For this:

  1. Make sure that the clock is in the current time mode.
  2. Press and hold the lower right button until the H-SET and Sub indicators appear in the upper left and right windows.
  3. We set the speed arrow (small counter at "12 o'clock") to the "50" position - using the same lower right button (if the speed already shows "50", then skip this item).
  4. Using the lower and upper right buttons, we move the hour and minute hands to the 12 o'clock position (if they are already standing like that, we also skip this item).
  5. Press the upper left button: the arrows will show the correct, synchronized with the numbers, the current time, and the speed arrow will return to zero.

Casio illuminator

Casio Illuminator is the same G-Shock. And not just the same, but the very first version of "jishok" plus a large number of modifications, including all new modern ones. The name is clear: the square with rounded corners really resembles the ship's Illuminator ... And the display says so: Illuminator.

All of this is absolutely iconic DW-5600, in various design solutions, completely digital, shockproof, waterproof up to 200 m, accurate (± 15 seconds per month), lightweight and extremely reliable, with a split-chronograph, stopwatch, countdown timer , automatic calendar, alarm clock, electroluminescent backlight. Buttons - 4 pieces, the lower left is used to select the mode. How do I set the time on a digital clock?

Of course, through these buttons! To set the time and date, in the current time mode, press the upper left button. The seconds start flashing. Press the top right, the seconds will be reset to zero. Then, using the same lower left, we make the hours blink, then minutes, date, month, year, and in the blinking state we correct them using the upper right button.

By the way, if this button is pressed and held, the readings will be set at a higher speed. The day of the week will be set automatically. At the end of the procedure, you can press the upper left button, or you do not need to press it - then the watch itself will return to the current time mode, just with a slight delay.

Casio edifice

Another legendary watch brand from Casio is Edifice, which has a clear auto and motorcycle racing style. And not only stylistics - the essence too: it is not for nothing that Casio Edifice is the official partner of Honda Motors Corporation and the title timekeeper of the Formula 1 team Scuderia AlphaTauri. At the same time, Edifice models are equipped with a hand indication, very reminiscent of classical mechanics, and the crown is actively used in setting, as in mechanics. But in a modern interpretation!

For example, here is the limited edition EQB-1100 chronographs dedicated to the AlphaTauri “stable”. The watch is powered by a solar battery, synchronizes with a smartphone (in which you need to install the Edifice Connected app), is enclosed in an ultra-thin (only 8,9 mm) case with a fashionable octagonal bezel and has a rich set of functions.

Among them, in addition to such relevant ones as a stopwatch, a timer, a calendar, a second time zone, world time (the latter two are especially pleasing to F1 pilots who are constantly wandering around the world), there are also such specific ones as memory for 200 laps and displaying the difference between time passing the current and previous laps. But the current time is shown by traditional hands, which are adjusted both automatically - by a signal from a smartphone via Bluetooth, and manually. Manual setting here is a typical clock setting with 3 buttons:

  1. Pull out the crown to the second click. The second hand will jump to zero.
  2. We turn the crown. The arrows rotate accordingly. Pay attention to the 24-hour counter located at the top of the dial: this helps to set the hands on the main (12-hour) scale to the desired position - before or after noon.
  3. As for time, that's all. You can push the crown back. If there is a need to adjust the calendar indicators, but leave the crown extended, press the upper button, as a result of which we proceed to setting the year, month, date, and the setting itself is also made using the crown.

Instructions for setting up electronic desktop clock VST

Compared to what we discussed above, the VST watch is a completely different story. First, they are not Japanese, but purely Chinese. Secondly, they are not wrist ones, but desktop ones (well, or bedside ones, for with an alarm clock). But also very, very popular! And setting the time on your VST watch is as easy as shelling pears. There may be differences from model to model, but they are not fundamental. Let's consider two options.

Model VST-862 and related ones. There are three buttons on the back of the case - SET, UP and DOWN. Short presses on the SET button switch the mode - from the current time to the date, from the date to the alarm clock, then to two more alarms (there are three in total). A long press on the SET button allows you to select the time format - 12- or 24-hour. A subsequent short press will make the current hour value pulsate. To correct it, press UP (to increase) or DOWN (to decrease). Once again, shortly press SET, go to setting the minutes, similarly, using the UP and DOWN buttons. After finishing the installation, press SET again.

Model VST-728 and the like. It's even easier here! On the upper part of the body there are TS, HOUR, MIN, AL-S buttons. To set the current time, long press TS, and then change the hour with the HOUR button and the minute with the MIN button. By the way, setting the alarm here is done in the same way, only the first thing to do is to press not TS, but AL.S.

Setting the AMST clock

Let's go back to the wristwatch, namely to the AMST brand. The company that produces this watch is a Belgian one, production is located in China and Taiwan. AMST watches are attractive by their price level, reliability of Japanese quartz movements and, most importantly, by their brutal military design. The model AMST 3003 with arrow and digital (in LED-display) time indication is in special demand. In addition to the current time, there is also a date, month, alarm and stopwatch. The setup instructions are more than logical:

  1. To set the current time, press the lower left button three times in a row.
  2. Press the lower right button once - this is the transition to the minute setting mode. Press the upper right button the required number of times, the minutes are ready.
  3. Once again we press the lower right and the required number of times the upper right - now the clock is ready.
  4. One more time to the bottom left - exited the setup mode.

To set the date and month, we do everything the same, only in step 2 we press the lower right button not once, but three times. Set the date on the top right, then (if necessary) press the bottom right once and several times on the top right - this is the month setting. And to set the alarm, we do everything as for setting the current time, with one exception - pressing the lower left button according to item 1 requires not three, but two. By the way, to turn off the alarm, just press the two right buttons at the same time.

Skmei

This is an extremely affordable wrist watch made in China, which has already conquered more than 60 countries of the world. They are sporty, very similar to Casio G-Shock - both in design, and in functionality, and in terms of declared shock resistance. Although they are significantly inferior in terms of water resistance ... And in terms of settings, of course, they are extremely similar to the "older Japanese brother".

For example, a digital model Skmei 1019. It has 5 buttons, but the lower one is a backlight button, and the installation is carried out by successive pressing of the MODE buttons (lower left, mode selection), RESET (lower right, selection of a configurable parameter) and START (upper right , changing the parameter by one).

Q&Q

We have already mentioned this Japanese brand: a very cute children's watch, often called simply QQ, which is pronounced "kuku" - cute and touching. There are a huge number of models, there are a lot of proposals for boys (with airplanes, cars, etc.) and for girls (with flowers, stars, dolls). All of them are arrowheads. For example, here is the Casual Kids model: three central hands, large Arabic numerals, flowers on the dial and strap; to adjust, simply pull out the crown, rotate it by rearranging the hands, and push it back. For a child - what you need!

The company's assortment also includes models for adults (the Superior collection): as a rule, these are also three-hand, adjustable in the same way. This collection also includes watches with date and day of the week display; to adjust them, the crown is provided not for one click, but for two: in the extreme position, the hands are set, in the intermediate position - the calendar indicators (respectively, towards yourself and away from you).

How can you customize your watch from China

Chinese products are irresistibly filling the world, so more and more often you can hear questions about how to use these products. We will not answer for everything in the world, but let's say about watches: the setting of a Chinese electronic wrist watch is no different (categorically!) From similar watches made in other countries. The principles are the same, and specifically - instructions from manufacturers to help us!
