Watch Omega X Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase

Wrist Watch

A month ago, on its Instagram page, Swatch teased fans of the MoonSwatch collection, hinting at an upcoming new product. Although it was immediately clear that the new product would be made based on the Snoopy model, the end result of the new collaboration between Swatch and Omega will still surprise you.

Called Mission to the Moonphase, it represents the first complication of the MoonSwatch collection, which celebrates its 2nd anniversary this year. As you might guess, we are talking about the moon phase indicator, which replaced the second counter familiar from other MoonSwatch models. “Lunnik” turned out to be unusual: in the window at the 2 o’clock position you can see Snoopy and Woodstock, famous characters from the Peanuts comics.

It is no coincidence that the cartoon dog Snoopy appeared on Omega watches. In the late 1960s, NASA chose this character as the logo for a special Silver Snoopy award, which was awarded for outstanding achievements during space missions. Since then, the funny dog from the comics has been featured three times in Omega Speedmaster models, with the last two Silver Snoopy models coming out relatively recently: in 2015 and 2020.

The design of the “lunar” in the new product is reminiscent of the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy model from the limited edition of 2015. In that watch, Snoopy is also depicted lying down, and next to him you can see the inscription “What could you do in 14 seconds?”, which refers to the accident that occurred during the Apollo 13 mission. This watch also has a secret phrase to the delight of collectors: “I can’t sleep without a night light!” is printed in the center of the indicator in UV ink. (“I can’t sleep without a night light”).

The naked eye can see that the model is almost entirely white. Hence its second name “Full Moon”. The watch has the same bioceramic case as previous MoonSwatch models. The dial glass is made of bioplastic. Water resistance 30 meters.

With the same diameter of 42 mm, the case is 0,5 mm thicker (13,75 mm), which is quite understandable, given the appearance of the “lunar”. The back cover with a window for the battery compartment features a cratered moon (with a flirty dog paw print).

Swatch does not provide specific information about what movement is used in the watch. Judging by the design and functionality, we can assume that this is some version of the ETA G10.962 quartz caliber with a moon phase indicator. To complete the Full White look, the new model comes with a white Velcro strap with bioceramic fittings.
