Bored skeleton and vibrant patterns - Seiko watches with Rowing Blazers

Wrist Watch

Rowing Blazers is a clothing brand that is not very well known in our country, but it certainly does not need introduction on the American market. Its founder Jack Carlson is a versatile personality. He defended his doctorate in archeology, received a bachelor's degree in Chinese, and, most importantly, is a real rowing specialist. Not only has Carlson himself competed in the World Championships three times as part of the American national team, he also wrote a whole book on the history of rowing blazers. Practice and theory, combined with an interest in street fashion, both 1990 and 2017 saw the birth of the Rowing Blazers brand (literally “rowing blazers”).

The brand's signature preppy style, associated with students of prestigious universities, was carried over by Seiko designers to watches from the Sports 5 collection. By the way, Jack Carlson himself is a passionate fan of Japanese watches: he collects modern and vintage Seiko models.

All of these introductions led to the creation of a timepiece in the classic Seiko style with some striking details. The series includes three models, on the back cover of which you can see the image of a depressed skeleton, reflecting on the frailty of life. In addition to a steel bracelet, each watch comes with an additional nylon strap that perfectly matches the Rowing Blazers clothing.

The release limit for two models was limited to 500 pieces. This applies to the SRPG49 watch with a bezel that uses a flag pattern that the referee raises at the finish of the races. Another interesting detail is the striped red and white second hand.

Finally, the series includes the SRPG53 watch with a red-green-yellow-blue bezel. This same color combination was used for the popular US electronic toy called Simon in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

All Seiko Sports 5 Rowing Blazers watches are presented in a 42,5 mm steel case with a water resistance of 100 meters and are equipped with an automatic caliber 4R36 with a 41-hour power reserve.
