Suunto 9 Peak: for everything seemingly impossible to measure

Wrist Watch

In May 2021, the Finnish company Suunto, the world leader in precision sports wristwatches, unveiled its new flagship, the Suunto 9 Peak, in Helsinki, the most powerful and thinnest watch in the brand's history, with unparalleled durability. This model builds on the achievements that have marked the Suunto 9 Baro watch series. The company rightly characterizes the novelty as a gadget created for everything that would seem impossible to measure.

A bit of prehistory

In 1933, the Finn Tuomas Vohlonen invented the compass, the body of which is filled with a viscous liquid. This has ensured the stability of the pointer, its protection against impact and wear in extreme conditions, a new level of accuracy and ease of reading. In 1935, the device was patented, and from 1936 its serial production began. At the same time, Suunto was officially founded. This name comes from the Finnish word "suunta" - azimuth, course, direction.

During World War II, the company produced a compact liquid compass M / 40 for gunners, and after the war it switched to peaceful products: marine and underwater compasses, devices for calculating the time of diver's ascent, the world's first diving computer in the format of a wristwatch, wrist gadgets for training outdoors, with numerous functions.

Today Suunto is a recognized world leader in this area. Modern Suunto are multifunctional wrist devices, which, of course, include a watch, but not only: a barometer, thermometer, altimeter, compass, mini diving computer, physical activity monitoring, heart rate monitor, GPS - this is not a complete list of that. what your Suunto is doing on your wrist. Well, the Suunto 9 Peak is a kind of record-breaking product.
