  • stimulates the rapid synthesis of melanin;
  • contributes to the preservation of vitamin D;

  • prevents skin aging under the influence of sunlight;
  • protects against burns;
  • protects against the aggressive influence of natural factors (ultraviolet, sea salt, etc.).

How does it work

The main active ingredients of coconut oil are biologically active fatty acids, which are presented in a large assortment in the composition of the product:

  • lauric - has powerful anti-inflammatory, rejuvenating and protective properties;
  • palmitic - is responsible for tissue renewal at the cellular level and the production of collagen;
  • oleic - promotes prolonged skin hydration by retaining water in the dermis;
  • stearic - increases the level of "self-defense" of the body, prevents early aging;
  • folic - heals and quickly restores superficial damage;
  • caprylic - stimulates metabolic and recovery processes.

Coconut oil itself has a high UV filter index - spf 8, and when applied over sunscreen (as recommended by experts), the drug gives excellent results. Along with protecting against sunburn and other negativity, natural coconut oil takes on an important role as a tanning activator - that is, it guarantees not only its safety, but also a deep, even tone.

How to apply coconut oil

Coconut oil is extremely convenient to use. When using this tanning product, you usually do not even need to melt it, because the air temperature on the beach most often exceeds 25 degrees, at which the solid, unrefined oil begins to soften on its own and turns into a liquid state. If this process requires acceleration, a piece of butter can simply be rubbed between the palms or held under running warm water - and it will quickly melt.

Most often, coconut oil is used on the skin for tanning in its pure form, somewhat less often - in combination with professional UV protectors or mixed with other base oils.

In the sun

During your stay at sea, especially in the early days, it is recommended to combine the use of coconut oil and specialized UV protection products. This approach will ensure that only the sun's rays that are safe for it are attracted to the skin and, as a result, a beautiful caramel tan is obtained without redness, peeling and other troubles.

The nuances of exactly how to use coconut oil for a natural tan depends on the individual characteristics of the skin, in particular, on the degree of its sensitivity to the sun. There are general rules for the use of this effective natural remedy, the observance of which gives stable positive results.

  1. Before going to the beach, you need to cleanse the body of pollution and sweat-fat secretions - protective agents should be applied only to clean skin; it is enough to take a shower with warm fresh water, you can do it without soap, but in this case you should not use a scrub.
  2. It is advisable to carry out water procedures in advance, an hour and a half before the planned sunbathing - at first the shower should be warm or even hot, and in the end it is necessary to rinse with cool water, which will help narrow the pores.
  3. After a shower, you can’t actively rub the skin red-hot - just blot it slightly with a soft towel, and apply unrefined coconut oil on the still damp body with smooth massage movements, first melting it with the warmth of your palms.
  4. To allow the oil to soak well along with moisture, it is recommended to walk around the room without clothes for an hour, without going to bed, and if possible without sitting down - after that you can put on a swimsuit and get ready for the beach.
  5. Already directly on the seashore, you can apply a ready-made sunscreen to the body - it is important to distribute the cream in a uniform thin layer over the entire surface of the skin, not missing even small areas of it.
  6. Do not abuse the stay in direct sunlight - try to complete the first tanning session to limit two, maximum three hours in the morning, so that by eleven in the morning you will be back from the beach.
  7. Gradually increase the time spent in the active sun; if you swim at the same time in the sea, renew the protective layer of coconut oil on the body, refreshing it every half hour.
  8. After an hour and a half after returning from the beach, rinse your body again with warm running water with a soft shower gel and, if possible, lie down relaxed for at least half an hour - the room should not be too hot and stuffy.
  9. If desired, after a shower, you can use coconut oil again - this is very useful for maintaining skin moisture and preventing inflammation in certain areas of it.

In the solarium

Recommendations for using coconut oil for artificial tanning in a solarium have their own specifics. Use them for the best results.

  1. Two hours before going to the solarium, take a warm shower, washing and massaging your body with running water; this time you can do without detergents.
  2. Lightly pat your skin dry with a terry towel and immediately apply melted coconut oil to your skin.
  3. While the oil is being absorbed, prepare a mixture of coconut oil and sunscreen - combine them in equal proportions and mix thoroughly until smooth.
  4. Open areas of the body will need to be evenly lubricated with this mixture already in the solarium, a few minutes before the procedure.
  5. At the end of a fake tan session, you can apply a small additional portion of coconut oil to the skin - already in its pure, undiluted form.
  6. Do not take a second shower immediately after the solarium - after the procedure, at least two hours should pass.

When tanning in a solarium, be sure to protect your skin

Staying in a solarium is characterized by a higher intensity of ultraviolet radiation than when tanning in natural conditions. Here it is appropriate to use protective agents of increased efficiency, diluting professional tanning creams with coconut oil. Soft oil mixtures in this case will not give a good result.

In pregnancy

If the doctor observing you believes that moderate sun and sea baths will not hurt during the period of bearing a child, do not deprive yourself of this pleasure. And be sure to use coconut oil - it will protect the skin from any troubles associated with sunburn and more. Coconut oil is safe for the expectant mother and her baby.

A nice bonus will be the prevention of stretch marks, which so often upset women with their appearance during pregnancy. By the way, coconut oil will also help even out the tone of the tan in areas of the skin with old stretch marks, which have not yet been eliminated.

For children

Delicate baby skin needs special protection from the sun. A child is more likely than an adult to get burns, allergies, and other dangerous side effects of sunburn. And I don’t really want to use synthetic protective drugs for the baby. In this case, coconut oil is ideal - natural, reliable and safe. Well, of course, one should not forget about the rules for children staying in the open sun either.

Caveats

There are few cases of individual intolerance to natural, hypoallergenic coconut oil, but they do exist. This is important to consider, especially since under the influence of hot sunlight, all the properties of the oil are greatly enhanced. Before using the product for the first time, a test should be done - oil a small area of skin on the inside of the wrist and wait at least a quarter of an hour. If the skin does not turn red, coconut oil can be applied.

Coconut oil is suitable for almost everyone, but it is better to test it in advance

With caution, you need to use this tool for those who have too oily skin with a predisposition to the formation of comedones. In this case, refined coconut oil is recommended because it has a lower density.

Reviews on the use of coconut oil for sunburn

Any vegetable oil, including coconut, if used during the tanning process, will contribute to tanning, just like a wet body tans faster than a dry one, just like you tan faster in water than just lying on the sand. With oil, the principle is the same - oil, like water, reflects the sun's rays and enhances their effect. Therefore, apply oil during the tanning process only if you want to tan faster. Also, any vegetable oil, and coconut too, moisturizes the skin well - which should be done after sunbathing. Now on the beach I mostly use coconut oil - I like its smell.

Impressions are ambiguous. It is absorbed well, but it really leaves a film on the body - however, I would not say that it is too oily. And it seemed to me that it was easily washed off while swimming in the sea (quite a long time - I like to swim). So it had to be smeared on a new one. What I liked: the tan really lay down much better and more evenly. And most importantly - the skin is perfectly moisturized and does not dry out. My main "resort" problem is not sunburn, but dryness and flaking of the skin from sea water, sun and wind, here the oil really helped.

I would recommend coconut oil, no matter how many products I tried, and the last time I sunbathed on coconut oil - the tan is amazing, the skin does not dry out, in general, beauty. The first few days I use protection, and then mainly on coconut oil.

For me personally, the best option is regular coconut oil. It also protects from burns, and the tan after it is then even.

I have tried this oil. I liked it very much! Yes, of course, a greasy trace will be felt, but before that I used tanning oils, so everything is tolerable for me. Coconut oil accelerates tanning, I have almost twice the effect than with professional products. Plus it's definitely more beneficial for the skin!

With proper use of coconut oil, tanning will become a hassle-free pleasure for you. This wonderful natural product can be used both in the solarium and on the beach - in any case, it guarantees beautiful shades of caramel for your skin at any time of the year.
