Rainbow fluorite is commonly found in hydrothermal veins, which form when hot water and dissolved minerals rise through the Earth's crust. Hot water and minerals interact with the surrounding rocks, and as a result of this interaction, fluorite crystals are formed.

- Fluorite is a mineral consisting of calcium and fluorine. It is a common mineral that can be found in various rocks and minerals.
- When fluorite crystals are exposed to trace amounts of certain elements such as manganese, uranium and thorium, these elements can be incorporated into the crystal structure.
- These elements absorb ultraviolet light and emit it as visible light. This is why rainbow fluorite glows with all the colors of the rainbow when exposed to ultraviolet light.
Rainbow fluorite is found in many parts of the world. Some of the most common deposits of rainbow fluorite are found in South Africa, Russia and parts of the United States of America, China.
