In 1743, King Charles of Bourbon and his wife Amalia of Saxony decided to establish a porcelain manufacturing center in their Reggia di Capodimonte, driven by the desire to obtain porcelain similar to the German produced in Meissen.
This is how the Royal Capodimonte Factory was born, whose products were later considered even larger than German and French ones. In fact, the special blend of soft textured high feldspar celebrated the performance of brush tip miniatures and created a special "under glass" effect that made these small works of art unique in the world.

In the 1700s, some important figures such as the sculptor Giuseppe Gricci, the chemist Livio Vittorio Sherps and the decorator Giovanni Caselli made important contributions to the composition of porcelain by improving its quality.
But the heyday of the Royal Capodimonte factory falls on the last two decades of the 18th century, when a real art school was born, led by Domenico Venuti, who made valuable porcelain services stored in the Capodimonte Museum.
