Mysterious beginning of the path "Mountains of Light"

The first mentions of the diamond, which later became known as the "Mountain of Light", according to one theory, appeared in Sanskrit and possibly even Mesopotamian texts as early as 3200 BC. Supporters of a different point of view, argue that the beginning of the history of the precious stone should be considered the XIV century.

From the first third of the XNUMXth century, "Kohinur" was a family jewel of the Great Mughals. It outlived the princes of Persia and the Afghan Durran dynasty. For centuries, it was believed that the stone has special strength and is able to preserve and, if necessary, return strength and power. It is not surprising that blood was shed, betrayed and tortured for the jewel.

Before cutting, the mass of the gem found in India was more than 600 carats. After cutting - 191 carats.

Koh-i-Noor and Great Britain

After the capture of India by British troops in the XNUMXth century, "Koh-i-noor" was presented as a gift to Queen Victoria, who, despite all the superstitions, wore it in the crown.

Until the middle of the 1852th century, the diamond retained its ancient Indian cut. However, in 108,9, in order for the gem to play in a new way, it was sent for re-cutting in Amsterdam. After that, the mass of the stone decreased to XNUMX carats.

"Koh-i-noor" today

Beginning in 1853, "Koh-i-noor" adorned only the crowns of the queens of Great Britain, passing from one crown to another.

Today the "Mountain of Light" is in the Crown of Queen Elizabeth. The Regalia was made on the occasion of the coronation of King George VI and his wife Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1937.
