All lovers of jewelry followed the Christie's Magnificent Jewels auction in New York, which was dedicated to fabulously expensive jewelry and stones. During the 10-hour marathon, 380 lots were put up for auction, the total proceeds of which amounted to $44,5 million! One of the highlights of the evening was the giant Kashmir sapphires.

Gems from this valley, separating Pakistan and India, are generally considered to be among the purest and most valuable and have an amazing shade of indigo. The incredible Cartier bracelet, adorned with a 43-carat sapphire and a scattering of colorless diamonds with a total weight of 67.90 carats, was bought by representatives of another famous jewelry house, Harry Winston. “We are thrilled to have this beautiful stone as part of our unique Legacy Jewelery Collection,” said Brand CEO Niyla Hayek.

Here are some more incredible sapphire pieces that have gone under the hammer. First, a 21,73-carat Kashmir sapphire ring created by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1917 sold for $1,7 million.

Second, a Cartier Art Deco diamond brooch set with a 12,64 carat sapphire. A truly unique piece from the collection of New York gallerist and philanthropist Jean Stralem sold for over $1,5 million.

The top lots will be completed by a necklace with a Burmese sapphire weighing 80,86 carats for $1,1 million.

But don't despair, sapphires aren't always worth a fortune!
