A pink diamond from Russia sold for a record amount!

Interesting

At the Geneva auction Sotheby's Magnificent and Noble Jewels (this is a special auction where only jewelry and precious stones are sold), serious passions were in full swing - several brilliant (literally and figuratively) lots were put up for auction at once, but first things first.

The main furor was made by a unique diamond of a rare pink-purple hue "Phantom of the Rose" weighing 14,83 carats. It was sold to an anonymous buyer for $26,6 million! This is a new price record for stones of similar clarity and color.

A diamond weighing almost 28 carats, from which the “Phantom of the Rose” was later cut, was mined in Yakutia at the Ebelyakh diamond placer in 2017 by the Alrosa company. This is the largest pink mineral ever found in Russia. No wonder the auction for him broke out such a stormy bidding!

Also at the auction were presented 11 diamonds, 10 of which were sold at a price above the estimated price. So, one of the most notable lots in this category was a platinum ring with a D-color (that is, transparent) diamond of 18,3 carats. It was sold for $1,9 million. Another ring with a similar smaller diamond went for $1,3 million. Rounding out the top three is a 102,4-carat light brown diamond (according to the color chart, approximately S-T), sold for $1,2 million. The amount of the transaction significantly exceeded the estimated value of the mineral.
