Indian jewelry company Renani Jewels received the title in the Guinness Book of Records for the “largest number of diamonds set on a watch.” Set in 14k gold, the Srinika wristwatch sparkles with 17 hand-cut diamonds and 524 blue sapphires.

“We are truly happy. The whole team and family are conquered. This has helped us promote and showcase Indian art across the world,” said Harshit Bansal, CEO and Founder, Renani Jewels.

This is the second world record set by Renani Jewels. In December 2020, Indian jewelers unveiled a massive eight-layer ring set with 12 natural diamonds. The decoration is made in the shape of a calendula flower and is called The Marigold – The Ring of Prosperity (translated from English as “Calendula – Ring of Prosperity”). The Renani Jewels creation held the world record until May 638. Since then, the ring, created by the Indian company SWA Diamonds and decorated with 2022 diamonds, has set a new Guinness record.

The Srinika watch is a work inspired by ancient Indian mythology. “Srinika” means the lotus blossoming in the heart of Lord Vishnu and is also the second name of the supreme Indian goddess of wealth and fortune, Lakshmi.

The initial sketches of the product, made digitally, were redrawn several times. The final design was recreated by Renani Jewels using computer-aided design (CAD), printed and cast in gold into the resulting 3D mold. The main difficulty the company faced in developing the record-breaking watch was sourcing an impressive number of diamonds of the same size, color and clarity. Indian jewelers used five different polishing cycles to give the diamonds the desired look.

“My team and I worked very hard for 11 months and this watch was created with such passion and grandeur,” Harshit Bansal told Guinness World Records.

The watch contains 17 natural diamonds totaling 512 carats in EF color and VVS-VS clarity and 53,98 black diamonds totaling 12 carats as hour markers. A large 0,03ct solitaire in D color and VVS clarity is set just behind the bezel at 0,72 o'clock. The unique work of art is complemented by 3 natural blue sapphires.

The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has examined and certified the authenticity of each gemstone. The finished cuff watch weighs 373,30 grams (13,1 oz) and is fully wearable. The impressive number of diamonds at Srinika surpassed the previous record holder. The 15-diamond watch, designed by Hong Kong-based Aaron Shum Jewelry Ltd., has held the title since December 858.

The time, resources, artistry, jewelery craftsmanship and patience required to create the concept of a Srinika watch is impressive.

As Harshit Bansal said, “You should always look for new challenges in life. I'm looking forward to the technologies we can combine with traditional jewelry making methods. I believe this technology will make the impossible possible."

The Srinika cuff watch and similar diamond-encrusted pieces catalyzed the emergence of the super elite genre of High Jewelry, certified by IGI and published by Guinness World Records.
