The other side of the coin: what is hidden behind the G-SHOCK case

Wrist Watch

Any watch model tells something about itself - with inscriptions on the dial, on the case, on the back cover, and sometimes on the strap. Naturally, the Casio G-SHOCK watch is no exception. Even more than that: G-SHOCK hides almost nothing about themselves! Let's see what the numerous markings on the back cover of one of the most “advanced” G-SHOCK watches – the Mudmaster GWG-1000 – tell us.

Still, let’s take at least a couple of short glances at the front of the clock. And on the strap too. Quite a lot of information already! And Casio is written, and G-SHOCK, and Mudmaster; It is immediately clear that there is a world time function (a scale with the names of many cities); there is a compass, an altimeter (also known as an altimeter) and a thermometer, combined with Triple Sensor technology.

The strap reports that Tough Solar (powered by a solar battery) and Multi Band 6 technologies are used (receiving precise time signals from six radio towers located in different parts of the planet, and automatically adjusting the time based on these signals), and the strap clasp adds: the watch has 200 -meter water resistance.

Now, finally, let's turn the watch over with the back cover facing us.

What does the back cover tell you?

She is steely and talks about a lot of things. Partially repeating what we have already seen from the front and side, and some information on it is our own, “back cover”. The structure of the markings is a central circle and concentric rings. Let's go from the center to the periphery.

In the center

In the very center is a logo that announces the most important property of G-SHOCK: SHOCK RESIST = shock-resistant. Above is another reminder of this: a stylized letter G, which is also a pair for the word SHOCK. Below is the CϾ marking, it certifies that the product complies with the basic requirements and standards of the European Union and is not harmful to consumers and the environment. This is important, because the European market is important for everyone! And finally, the inscription SHOCK ABSORBING STRUCTURE once again reminds of the watch’s shock resistance and a little reveals its nature - it lies in the shock-absorbing structure.

Second circle

We go from position “12” clockwise. At the very top is CASIO, this is understandable. Next is the watch module number and model number. It is then confirmed that the back cover is made of stainless steel.

Of particular interest are the JAPAN and GE markings. Contrary to popular misconception, this is not one marking, supposedly indicating that the birthplace of the watch is Japan, but they were collected somewhere else, but two independent markings! The word JAPAN in this case declares that the watch is entirely made in Japan. And GE is just an assembly line designation, no more, but no less important than the aforementioned watch serial number. For the pair “Japan and another country,” write JAPAN MOVT CASED IN (for example) THAILAND.

The circle is completed by indicating the water resistance of the case: 20 atmospheres, that is, 200 meters. We've already seen this on the strap clasp, but repeating it on the back cover is at least harmless.

Circle three

We start again from position “12”, and here is another repetition. We revealed the meaning of the MULTI BAND 6 inscription when looking at the strap, but let us remind you: it speaks of receiving precise time signals from six radio towers located in different parts of the planet, and automatically adjusting the time based on these signals. Further along the circle there is a reminder on the purpose of the buttons on the watch case. DISPLAY — switching modes for displaying information on the display, MODE — switching clock modes, LIGHT — turning on the backlight, ALTI — altimeter, COMP — compass.

Circle four (last)

This circle can be called broken, which is quite consistent with the very shape of the back cover. At the top there is the inscription SAPPHIRE GLASS - sapphire glass (we should add that it is undoubtedly equipped with an anti-reflective coating), on the right side there is a reminder TOUGH SOLAR (directly translated as “hard solar”, but in fact the name of the proprietary technology for powering the watch from a solar battery).

Conclusion

Japanese watch Casio G-SHOCK GA-700CM-3A with chronograph

The watch told a lot about itself. But, of course, not all of them: after all, they are not technical descriptions or operating instructions. If you are interested in additional details, the latter is necessarily included with the watch, along with a warranty card. And all this – in a beautiful branded packaging!
