Review of Japanese men's watch Casio G-SHOCK GA-100-1A1

Wrist Watch

The G-Shock collection was born in 1983. The fathers of this family were engineers Kikuo Ibe and Yuichi Maruda. Kikuo Ibe, CASIO's lead watch designer, led a team of three in 1981. Guided by the concept of "Triple 10" (drop from a height of 10 meters, pressure up to 10 bar, and a battery life of 10 years), the design team gave people a masterpiece - a watch with unique properties - at an affordable price for everyone.

At first the group failed. Ibe went out for a walk and put his nerves in order before a failed report - but he saw a girl playing ball - she was catching a ball that bounced off the asphalt after being thrown. It was a rubber ball with a metal core inside.

“The future is inaccessible, the past is to hell, and the present, with all its filth, is the only reality. It should be accepted or changed. Don’t put everything off for yourself in the future, but try to change now.” David Lazba

Since that day, G-Shock watches have stood on “three pillars” of resistance to mechanical stress: a unique case design, reliable protection and a shock-absorbing layer of important parts of the mechanism.

Unique design

Model GA-100-1A1 is the perfect illustration of all the benefits of the G-Shock collection. Mechanical shock takes on a heavy-duty body. At the same time, the watch face will remain safe and sound, and the mechanism is fixed only at a few points inside the watch, which enhances shock absorption. The case has its recognizable shape after the finest calculations of the correct geometry, experimentally verified angle of possible resistance of glass, keys and other elements.

The coating of urethane rubber, which has the highest strength, as well as an exceptional wear resistance - like the shell of a rubber ball, it springs and protects the watch. Mineral glass is "recessed" into the depth of the case.

Before the advent of the G-Shock collection, no watch could boast of successful resistance to vibration. Sailors, locomotive drivers, factory workers were forced to change their watches frequently. And Casio G-Shock allows you to work on a lathe, drill stone, race on a motorcycle - it will not hurt the watch. Shock absorbers are located between the bezel and the module, and the quartz oscillator and other components of the watch quartz movement are “wrapped” with a special shock absorber.

The plastic strap also works as a shock absorber! The strap absorbs shock and has the perfect balance of softness for secure protection and a comfortable fit on the wrist.

Count Down and other options

Analog-digital time display, convenient large hands + LCD display make the watch very convenient to operate. Excellent illumination, and there is a mode of automatic switching on of the dial lighting - when you turn the watch to the face. There are no numbers on the dial, but we can already easily do without them, and this allows us to place large electronic numbers and letters on the display in the windows: date, month, day of the week, “am / pm” indicator.

Of the frequently encountered complications - or options - a stopwatch and a countdown timer, an alarm clock with five signals per day, and with different sounds, as well as a signal every hour. It is very convenient for a teacher, a student, a person who uses an electric train every day, a diver, an athlete. By the way, the watch is quite suitable for diving. Setting the data on the watch is very simple, those who have already used Casio watches may not even re-read the instructions.

Of the complications, you can add a second time zone, and world time, as well as the “snooze” effect for the main alarm signal - it gradually increases in volume.

Bushido Kikuo Ibe

"Inaction equals retreat" - these words from Bushido, or the chivalrous Japanese code "Way of the Warrior" have become the motto of the creators of G-Shock, and those who are now improving new models. The case of Casio watches from this collection is improved in detail, remaining fundamentally the same as the first watch in the G-Shock collection. Such discoveries are made infrequently.

Long-term work on more than two hundred prototypes led to the creation of the collection. The first G-Shock wristwatch, the DW5000, hit the market in 1983, two years after the project was launched. This was the beginning of the unique G-Shock journey, the "stuffing" varies from model to model, but the basic principles remain the same.

And they highly appreciated the recognizable shape of G-Shock watches ... masters of fakes. Approximate similarity does not imply an exact calculation made by Kikuo Ibe's team. Casio Computer, the developer and owner of the G-Shock trademark, is the only manufacturer that has the right to put such a mark on watches.

The name G-Shock on the watch cannot be the only name. The exact name implies the first and last letters: GA-100-1A1. The first and last digits of the model may differ, as they indicate the city of assembly, the factory index, and even shifts. For branded watches, the following are required: a branded box with Casio or G-Shock inscriptions, instructions for men's watches and a warranty card.
