In general, micro mosaic is an ancient art. As early as the second half of the 700s, the precious and very special art of miniatures made from colored glass fragments was developed. Papal Rome was especially famous for such religious items. Art has reached such proportions that some of the frescoes in the Vatican have been replaced with more durable and bright micro mosaics.
The technique of micro mosaic, of course, has changed over time. Until the XNUMXth century, the technique of carved enamel was used. Enamel in the form of a round blank was broken along special notches, and pieces of the correct shape were obtained, from which the mosaic was then assembled.
Everything changed thanks to improvements in glass production. In the second half of the XNUMXth century, it was possible to create a method for drawing glass paste into thin strips. That is why the mosaic was assembled from infinitely small glass elements. It is clear that in such a situation, it is not the cost of the material for the mosaic that comes to the fore, but the infinitely complex and painstaking work of the master. Of course, diamonds cannot spoil such beauty:
Glass elements in the form of the thinnest strips are cut into small segments, and then the mosaic masters set them into decoration. This is how a pattern or desired paintings are created by hand. Of course, the smaller the elements, the clearer the image will be.
