Trend: Punk & Grunge Jewelry

Jewelery and bijouterie

Studs, spikes, pins, skulls, leopard print and frayed leather - all these unchanging attributes of punk and grunge styles go out of fashion only to enter it again in a year or two. Today, you don't have to wear a mohawk or be a fan of the Sex Pistols to add boldness and brightness to your outfit with eye-catching grunge details.

The style is also good because it is almost unisex, which means that you can experiment and make new combinations, changing jewelry with your partner! Don't be serious, be lovers and rebellious like the heroes of our shooting.

Definition and features of styles

First, let's figure out what punk and grunge are, and how is one different from the other? Punk originated in the 60s and 70s in Great Britain and is closely associated with the name of the British rebel, queen of alternative fashion Vivienne Westwood, who was not only a designer, but also the wife of the producer of the legendary Sex Pistols Malcolm McLaren. It was she who brought the street style of revolutionary-minded teenagers to the catwalks.

Distinctive features - biker jackets, massive metal chains, ripped rolled up jeans, Dr. Martens and leather accessories. The same perky chaos reigned in jewelry as at punk concerts: studded cuff bracelets were combined with metal chains, necklaces and pin earrings with leather harnesses, suspenders and bandages, white metal pendants with penny plastic badges.

Grunge is close to punk with its love of chains and brutal jewelry. His homeland is considered the American city of Seattle, since it was there that in the early 90s the musical groups Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jeam and the legendary Nirvana appeared. Of course, the main fashion icon of the grunge style is Nirvana soloist Kurt Cobain.

If we talk about the fashion industry, then there is also a hero here - designer Marc Jacobs, who once introduced elements of the grunge style into the DNA of his brand. It was he who suggested wearing oversized clothes, plaid flannel shirts as if from someone else's shoulder, vintage stretched sweaters and dresses with prints in the form of small flowers or peas, combined with rough boots.

How do you adapt grunge elements in your wardrobe so that it looks modern? As always, the right jewelry comes to the rescue!

Rough chains

Forget elegant chains or modest braided bracelets, only massive chains, only hardcore. A special chic is to wear "industrial" chains, as if they were not intended at all for a fashionable wardrobe. Wrap them over the sleeves of a sweater or turtleneck as a layered bracelet, or wear them around the neck in combination with a silk dress or evening tuxedo.

The latter is the most dramatic, create a contrasting look in the spirit of Saint Laurent, combining elegant silhouettes with ostentatious accessories. Do not be afraid to put on several chains at once, weave them together, create some kind of chaos from the jewelry to make the image as careless as possible. In the style of Courtney Love, but a little more discreet!

Brutal earrings

Earrings-hoops with balls, as for piercing, as well as ear cuffs and earrings of unusual shapes, for example, in the form of daring matches or nails, are in fashion. Guys can wear this jewelry with monochrome outfits: white high-necked jumpers, plain T-shirts and rocker leather jackets.

For girls, the choice is even more varied: in contrast, combine brutal earrings with cocktail dresses or cozy chunky sweaters. You can bet on noble dark colors - asphalt gray, deep green and blue, wine.

Star shaped

The brooch and star earrings are all Ciclon.

Depending on the metal, size, color and décor, star-shaped pieces can look romantic or daring. We choose option number two this season. Punk stars are large, made of cold shades of metal - silver, white gold, platinum, steel. They adorn accent earrings and a brooch cling to the lapels of an oversized coat. Stars on the toes, on the collar of a shirt (buttoned tight), as pins on sneakers and even on bags. Do not be afraid to overdo it, because ... if the stars are lit, then someone needs it.

Mono earrings

The mono-earring was once an exclusively masculine adornment, but recently the accessory has been rethought and became trendy. A trendy one-piece earring should be chunky, keep the punk rock style and look bold. For example, a decoration in the form of a huge pin (this is already pure punk), a fang, a bullet, or just an abstract metal structure.

Remember that grunge and punk is a story about carelessness and the use of sometimes completely unexpected objects as accessories.

Spikes and Blades

Sharp shapes in jewelry are another striking element of punk culture. Razor blade pendants, barbed wire bracelets and necklaces, spike pendants. Such jewelry looks especially impressive when combined with deliberately laconic outfits and accessories in a minimalist style.

Here, perhaps, you can experiment with the color of the metal and try to assemble the kit in gold. Of course, it will look more elegant, since the shade of yellow gold is still associated with status, prestige and luxury among most people. But the "piercing-cutting" elements will return the image to the carefully crafted spirit of rebellion.

Silver plus total black

The girl is wearing: hoop earrings and a choker - all UNOde50; Ciclon bracelet. The guy is wearing a Swarovski leather bracelet, a bracelet with a loop lock and a chain bracelet - all UNOde50; Sokolov bracelet.

Perhaps there is no more hooligan, rocker and stylish combination than deliberately careless black clothes - a leather jacket, a T-shirt, an asymmetrical hoodie shirt - and silver jewelry. The latter should be massive, accent, but with minimal decor - let the cold, "rough" metal fill the entire shape.

Heavy handcuff bracelets, cast chokers and hoop earrings will make any, even the simplest, look textured and expressive. A slight mess in the hair, a slightly haughty expression on his face, and the image of a trendy punk is ready.
